About the Callmaker

I think I have always hunted ducks. For some strange reason it seems that I have also suffered long with the affliction of being able to take things apart and put them back together again. The boys and I who grew up hunting together preferred worn out equipment, even though our combined net worth probably wouldn't buy a full pack of Twinkies. So my early duck hunting years were seasoned with a great deal of mechanical trial and error. When I was in college we hunted every day except for an occasional weekend when one of us was lucky enough to have a blind date. We kept a large box of spare used outboard parts that we gleaned from someone's scrap pile.

I love to duck hunt. I also love to make things (that’s better than fixing things). The boys of the "Ain't No Tellin Duck Camp", Leroy, L. Clark, and I duck hunt even when we are not duck hunting. Do we need more decoys? Do we need to put out fewer decoys? Do we need more spinners? Do we need fewer spinners? Should we move the blind to the flat 40? Are we going to have beans or rice in the field this year? If it's beans are they 5's or 6's and will the farmer be able to get them harvested before wet weather sets in? You get the idea. My off season time is spent either carving decoys, making duck calls, analyzing the last season, or planning the next season. My wife is a very understanding and patient woman...most of the time.

Louisiana duck calls were started as a way to share my love of duck hunting.

A custom call is a unique piece of equipment that has it's own personality. It reflects the style of the owner. A duck call will tell you a lot about the person around whose neck it hangs. Louisiana duck calls are made for the person who demands a piece of equipment that works as hard as they hunt. It's OK too if the call looks good while it does it's work. We, at Louisiana Duck Calls are just like you and the folks you hunt with. We are passionate about duck hunting and I believe one of my calls, just like a really good retriever like Phoebe, will make the hunt just a little more productive and a little more fun.

Sincerely,

Tommy Johnson
